Not cutting at all. Any ideas?😊

Chainsaw Not Cutting? Common Causes and How to Fix Them

A chainsaw that runs but does not cut properly can be frustrating. One of the most common reasons is a dull, damaged, or incorrectly installed chain. If your chainsaw is not cutting at all, it is important to inspect the chain and guide bar before continuing to use the tool.1. Check the Chain Sharpness

The cutting teeth on a chainsaw chain must be sharp to cut through wood efficiently. If the teeth are dull, worn, or damaged, the chain may rub against the wood instead of cutting it. Sharpening the chain with the correct file or replacing a severely damaged chain may solve the problem.2. Inspect the Chain Installation

Make sure the chain is installed in the correct direction. The sharp cutting edges on the upper side of the guide bar should face forward, toward the tip of the bar. An incorrectly installed chain will not cut properly.3. Examine the Depth Gauges

Depth gauges control how deeply each cutting tooth enters the wood. If they are too high, the chain may produce very little cutting action. They should be checked and adjusted according to the manufacturer's specifications.4. Check for Chain Damage

As shown in the picture, the chain should be inspected carefully for worn, chipped, bent, or broken cutting teeth. Damaged components can prevent effective cutting and may create a safety hazard. Replace damaged parts before using the chainsaw again.5. Inspect the Guide Bar and Chain Tension

A worn or damaged guide bar, or a chain that is too loose or too tight, can also cause cutting problems. Ensure the chain tension is adjusted according to the owner's manual and that the chain moves freely when the chainsaw is switched off and safely secured.
